The drive from Monterey to Big Sur is a gorgeous stretch of the 1 (Hwy 1) rich with scenery and culture. Bring gear to capture images of distant coastlines, massive trees, and expansive bridges. Remember that driving south on the 1 makes it easier to access the scenic overlooks and pull-offs since you won’t have to cross oncoming traffic. So plan you trip accordingly.
